Green Thumbs Galore’s Pandora’s Box Daylily

Posted: March 25th, 2009 | Author: Sarah | Filed under: Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

I was lucky enough to stumble on Green Thumbs Galore’s great nursery in Chattanooga, TN.  Their selection of daylilies is great, and they have some beautiful peonies and iris, not to mention a very fun selection of birdfeeders (twirl-a-squirrel NEVER gets old).

Green Thumbs Galore shipped my Pandora’s Box Daylily and it arrived this evening, in the middle of a rainshower. Still,  I couldn’t resist planting it.

  • It’s so cool to find nursery owners from eastern Iowa on twitter, but it makes me miss Iowa’s native plants. #
  • I’ve learned the past few days that 140 char is really limited, especially for direct messages. I should start writing more haikus. #
  • Really need to lay off the coffee. #
  • I’m admiring the new bromeliad in a conch shell that I bought online. It looks like a spindly, green hermit crab. Now craving seafood. #
  • Getting feedback of any kind is always a good thing. #
  • Sweet Peas from @BotanicalOnline are doing great! Can’t wait to plant. #
  • Looking at DoLeaf’s To-Do List. We have a lot of To-Dos. Wish I had more To-Don’ts. #
  • First hosta of the season in my garden: Sea Thunder. ‘Great Expectations’ hosta, I expected more from you… #
  • 80 degrees in Atlanta today. Dogs are happy playing in the yard, while I’m stuck inside working. Hope to check on budding maples soon. #
  • Planted my first hosta-in-a-box…fingers crossed. #

Techstars For a Day (a.k.a. “Our Wacky Trip to Boulder”)

Posted: March 3rd, 2009 | Author: Sarah | Filed under: doleaf development | Tags: , | 1 Comment »

Today, we went to TechStars-for-a-Day in Boulder. To prep, we updated the beta version of DoLeaf. Also,  I got an organic cotton sweater (very leaf green), Micah got a snappy haircut (very James Bond), and Ryan got fancy business cards (very organic.) However, the hardest part of our prep was making these little packets of our favorite heirloom, Money Plant, to give out to prospective mentors. We used seeds from Botanical Interests, a great business out of Broomfield, Colorado.

Atlanta Snowstorm

Posted: March 2nd, 2009 | Author: Sarah | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »

This is what a March 1st snow in Atlanta looks like. We got around 4 inches in a thunder-snowstorm yesterday afternoon. Glad I took a walk instead of planting my new lilies-of-the-valley.  (By the way, the last picture is me beating the snow off some crushed arborvitae.)

(Thanks for joining us, Pete and Kathleen!)
