New Home, New Tree

A month after DoLeaf founder, Ryan, and his wife, Jessica,  moved into their new Kansas City digs, they planted this great Autumn Blaze maple in front of their house. Ryan even broke out the construction lights after dark so they could complete their first planting.

Winter Bouquet

For us, having people over means a quick shopping trip to look like we have our act together. I got a cheap tablecloth, some placemants, but needed a centerpiece. A trip to the backyard yielded Icelandic ivy, cast-iron plants, euonymus, autum ferns, loropetalum and daffodills.  It seemed a hodgepodge at first, but made a great bouquet. We transferred the cuttings to a smaller glass after the party. (A guest brought a great Earth-friendly flower bouquet, that’s our new centerpiece.)

Death Zone Revisited

This area of our yard is under the neighbor’s maple tree. The tree’s shallow roots make it hard to grow anything here. Three gardenias and a mock orange have met their end in this spot.

We found some Persian Ivy at the nursery today that was half-off. The price, the foliage and the hardiness made us think it might be a good fit for the Death Zone. We’ve planted the ivy away from the tree. Hopefully, we can train it to overtake the fence.

Our first plants (sort of)

We’re excited about how DoLeaf’s shaping up. I made a test nursery to try out the sign-in, build-a-store, add-an-item  processes. Uploading images of each plant and adding in related material (description and growing needs) took only 1-2 minutes per plant.  The design’s still kind of clunky, but the images look great!

The icons below each plant are automatically generated based on information the seller provides. They illustrate the plant’s growing conditions. Sun preference (sun, part-sun, shade), growth rate (slow, medium, fast) , cold hardiness, and shipping form (seed, bulb pot, bareroot) are shown here.
